Slot Machine positioning

Books have been set forth on this issue, and the contention and feuds about where the "hot" one armed bandits are installed in the casino are still rampant – more than 60 years after slot machines were first added to the gaming floor in gambling houses.

The classic rule is that the most favorable one armed bandits were placed just inside the main entryway of the casino; so that folks passing by would see actual jackpot winners … be captivated to come unto the gaming floor … play. Our perspective is that this is no longer true.

The great majority of the mega casinos presently are mammoth complexes and you no longer can see inside from the sidewalk, so there is no longer a reason to place the ‘loose’ slot machines in close proximity to any exits.

Yet another traditional rule is that loose slot games are positioned on the major aisles in the casinos, again so that more fun seekers could see winning jackpots and be influenced to play. Importantly though, we find that this also is not a universal rule any more.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played slots at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

These days, casinos are constantly changing their perspective about where to place the loose slots.
